Managers matter – seriously!

In another blast of the obvious (after showing us that stable teams perform better), the December 2013 issue of the Harvard Business Review, citing a study by the data-obsessed HR team at Google, reports that high-scoring managers see less turnover than others, and that retention is related more strongly to manager quality than seniority, performance, tenure, or promotions. As a bonus, manager quality is tightly connected with job satisfaction and even work-life balance.
